third grade art
Art in third grade is full of exciting new experiences including, creating collaborative art from recycled and natural materials. We also explore how math and science are utilized in creating works of art. Third graders will continue to understand the Elements and Principles in art and discuss how they are used in works of art. We will look at how digital media has affected visual art. Third graders will have a lot of fun this year exploring new things in the art room!

Recycled Art
Above: Students working in groups to create their Recycled Robots.
We will be looking at how artists use recycled materials in their artwork. Students will bring in some of their own materials to create a recycled robot as a group.
Sketchbooks
STUDENTS HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT THE ELEMENTS OF ART AND APPLYING THEM TO THE FRONT COVER DESIGN OF THEIR SKETCHBOOKS.
Abstract Art
We will study the art of Wassily Kandinsky, one of the first purely abstract artists.
ABSTRACT ART is art that uses shapes, forms, colors, and textures instead of images.
Students will study the above artwork, looking for anything that relates to math. Then students will create their own abstract art piece using specified math facts, oil pastel and watercolor.
